Hello, my name is Dr. Emily Baier. I was born in Arkansas and lived in Oklahoma until my family moved to South Carolina when I was seven. We initially lived in Beaufort, SC and moved to Columbia, SC when I was 12. I graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor’s in Biology in 2018 and received my Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine in Alabama in 2024, graduating summa cum laude.

I grew up doing year round competitive swimming and I currently love to scuba dive and snowboard with my husband, Robert. We have several fur children – five cats (Batman, Robin, Izzy, Milo, and Stewie), and one dog (Ebony). My passion for veterinary medicine goes back to when I was a seven, and that passion has only grown stronger through the years. I discovered my love for animals while first volunteering at a county animal shelter, and then working as a veterinary assistant for seven years while also attending high school and college.

During the summer of 2022, I had the tremendous opportunity to join a select group of veterinary students from around the world to learn about conservation and to provide care for animals in the wild in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. Since that time, I have also taken part in preceptorships here at Veterinary Medicine & Surgery, with the Greater Birmingham Humane Society (AL), and most recently at the Dallas Zoo (TX).

My areas of interest include surgery, felines and exotics. I am excited for this opportunity to give my all while caring for each patient and working alongside the amazing staff at VMS, and I look forward to meeting you and your precious pets!
