Choosing cremation is a deeply personal decision, and one that families across Columbia and the Midlands are increasingly considering as they honor their loved ones. At Leevy’s Funeral Home, we understand that cremation does not mean forgoing a meaningful service or a lasting way to say goodbye. Whether you choose a Complete Cremation Service with a full viewing and ceremony, or a Direct Cremation followed by a memorial gathering, our compassionate staff is here to guide you through every option with care and respect. We take the time to explain each choice clearly, so your family can select the path that best honors your loved one’s life while providing the comfort and closure you need.

The Complete Cremation Service is another type of selected offering. This service will be just like a Complete Funeral Service except cremation will follow instead of the casketed burial. This can be accommodated by the use of a cremation casket (casket that is designed to be cremated). Following the viewing, service or ceremony, and eventual cremation, the cremated remains can be buried, properly scattered, or returned to the family for safe keeping. Urns are used to hold the cremated remains. Urns can be constructed out of basic materials like cardboard or plastic, or constructed out of more protective materials like basic and semi-precious metals, ceramics, and woods.
A Direct Cremation Service can be arranged as an immediate disposition of the body, but is most times followed by a memorial service at the church, funeral home or other location. A Memorial Service is one where the body is not present. Families can also choose to do a viewing for family and friends before the cremation. Viewing of the deceased is a very important step in acknowledging that the death has occurred. Having some type of service or ceremony is also a key ingredient to a healthy recovery of a loss due to a death.

Talking with a loved one about funeral arrangements can feel uncomfortable, even overwhelming, but it is one of the most caring conversations a family can have. Approaching the topic with patience and an open heart allows your loved one to share their wishes, values, and hopes for how their life will be honored, sparing you the burden of guessing during a time of grief. It’s natural to feel hesitant or unsure of how to begin, so start gently, choose a quiet moment, and let them know the conversation comes from love rather than urgency. At Leevy’s Funeral Home, we understand how tender this subject can be, and our compassionate staff is always available to help guide these discussions, offering resources and gentle support so your family can approach the future with clarity, comfort, and peace of mind.
